RIYADH: The traffic department has announced a new measure to prevent people from using their cars with over six seats as taxis, which requires them to prove that they have large families when registering the vehicles.

An online publication reported on Friday that the department has already begun to enforce the measure on the country’s roads. It will require all expatriates to prove that they have four or more family members if they want to register vehicles with six and eight seats.

The department warned that those found guilty of breaking the law would have their vehicles impounded and fined between SR300 and SR500.
