Environmental health authorities in the Eastern Province municipality have allocated 13 slaughterhouses for Eid Al-Adha sacrifices.

The authority also created a meat health department to ensure that authorized slaughterhouses follow health requirements in a bid to reduce random slaughtering, control public health diseases and intensify awareness campaign ahead of the busy season.

The directorate has drafted a comprehensive plan with the participation of municipalities to ensure that slaughterhouses are ready.

Muhammad Al-Sufaian, spokesman for the Eastern Province municipality, said that the General Directorate of Environmental Health has been keen on equipping Dammam’s central slaughterhouse and raising its productivity levels by providing standby staff to address customer requests.

“The directorate has opened a large slaughterhouse section for large animals, such as camels and cows, along with a waiting lounge for customers. The entrance of this lounge will be located at the northern side of the slaughterhouse left of the collection office. Two lounges and two squares have been assigned for slaughtering small animals, while one slaughter lounge has been allocated for contractors and associations.”

“Animals will be slaughtered at 3 p.m. on the first day of Eid in order to expand the area and accommodate a greater number of reservations. New slaughter locations will be assigned at the main lounge to accommodate the huge amount of orders during this season.” “Slaughterhouses will receive sacrifices at the public hall as early as at 5 a.m.; they will open directly after the end of Eid prayer until sunset,” Al-Sufaian added.
