Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif has ordered the province’s Traffic Department to launch a traffic awareness campaign that targets violations directly affecting the safety of road users and pedestrians. The campaign that began on Monday registered more than 9 thousand tickets and confiscated 275 vehicles.

Col. Mansour Al-Shukra, media spokesman for the Eastern province’s Traffic Department said that this campaign focuses on the violations that affect citizens on the roads, areas designated for pedestrians, vehicles with faulty headlamps, vehicles that release smoke and vehicles that have illegal shades on the windows.

Col. Al-Shukra said: “The campaign is an extension of the regular traffic campaign that takes place on a daily basis. Officers, field members of the Traffic Department and administrators in all cities of the Eastern Province participate in the campaign. It is directly supervised by Maj. Gen. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Shanbari, director of the Eastern province’s Traffic Department who also participates in the field.”

“The statistics of the first day included more than 9 thousand tickets and the confiscation of 275 vehicles, of which 680 included violations regarding illegal window shades, 27 vehicles that release toxic smoke and 56 vehicles with faulty headlamps all posing a danger to public safety. The Traffic Management continues to carry out these campaigns to raise awareness of traffic issues and seize violators,” Al-Shukra said.
