The Madinah Legal Health Commission has imposed fines amounting to SR 80,500 on a number of doctors for malpractice in private health centers and clinics.

The fines were approved by Abdullah Al-Taifi, director general of Madinah health affairs.

He said his department always impressed on health workers to comply with the rules and regulations. He added that the department took necessary punitive actions against violators in accordance with the established procedures.

A female gynecologist was fined SR 20,000 for violation of private right, with an order not to renew her contract. The reason for this particular action was her relatively advanced age, her not being able to give clear instructions to the patients, and make treatment plans for the patients. She also failed to consult her superiors when a patient’s family filed a formal complaint.

Another female gynecologist at the same hospital was fined for her failure to write down information clearly and give proper documentation. She also failed to conduct a proper physical examination, which is the standard procedure.
