RIYADH: Alert officials at Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport recently foiled an attempt by an Asian expatriate to leave the country illegally.
“The man was wearing the uniform of the airport maintenance staff and carrying a fake badge,” a source told Sabq online news portal. “He was trying to enter the international departure area of the airport when he was spotted and caught. An initial questioning revealed that he had a plane boarding pass and forged departure stamp in his passport,” the source added.
Further investigations that included taking the suspect’s fingerprints indicated that he was wanted by police.
The Asian expatriate's arrest was the third to occur at the Riyadh airport this month.
A Saudi teenage boy was detained after he attempted to travel to Turkey by impersonating his sister. The 17-year-old boy was dressed in women’s clothes, wore make-up and oversized glasses and carried a woman’s bag when he presented his sister’s passport to travel abroad. However, the passports officer became suspicious and referred him to the competent authorities.
In another case, two men were arrested after they tried to move beyond the security counter by showing badges. A closer look at the badges showed they were fake and the two men were arrested. Investigations revealed that one of them was wanted by the police and the other by the public prosecution.
