DAMMAM: An Asian worker was accidentally buried alive when a truck laden with sand was being unloaded.
The expatriate from India was busy on a telephone when the truck driver dumped the sand on him.
The driver did not notice that a man was standing behind the truck when he was unloading it. He fell down and got buried under. He died.
This is the second incident of its kind in a day in Qatif. According to some expatriates, sand truck drivers do not care about safety rules that must be considered while unloading their trucks. “The drivers should ensure that there are no children or people behind the truck,” they said.
Ziad Al-Ruqaiti of the Eastern Province police confirmed the death. “The Tarout police station received a word about the accident on Wednesday evening,” he said. “The man was in his 40s and he died instantly.”
The body was transferred to a government hospital for necessary procedures.
