RIYADH: Expatriates from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh donated 116 pints of blood this week to help patients in various hospitals in the Eastern Province.
A total of 123 volunteers turned up for donating blood at the Dammam Central Hospital. Some of them were rejected becauses to health reasons.
A standard health screening procedure was done prior to blood being donated. Each donor underwent tests for blood pressure, sugar and hemoglobin count before the donation. The checks also included for communicable diseases.
Volunteers from Dammam and Al-Rakha ferried enthusiastic donors to the blood bank. The campaign started at 12:30 p.m. and ended at 6 p.m. The volunteers, who donated blood pledged to continue with their contribution on a regular basis in the future.
The blood donation was carried out under the direct supervision of Abdulla Al-Otaibi, director of Regional Laboratory in the province, who said the blood will be distributed among patients who need them in government hospitals in the Eastern region. He also thanked the organization for conducting this campaign to help those who are in need of the blood.
“This is 48th such blood drive by Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamaath (TNTJ), in the Eastern region,” an official from the sponsoring organization said, adding that the campaign was successfully carried out earlier in Alkhobar, Dammam, Qatif and Jubail Hospitals.
“The noble act of donating blood will not only gives a new lease of life to many, it also heightens our common sense of social responsibility by serving the humanitarian and social needs of our local communities.
