ABHA: There should be greater cooperation between Saudi and Indian universities to help improve outcomes for citizens and expatriates, a leading educationist has urged.
This is the view of Zafar Sareshwala, chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, India, who delivered the keynote address recently at an education meeting organized by the non-resident Indian community in Abha.
Sareshwala said education was one of the most important pillars of advanced societies, and that global cooperation was a necessity.
“Many universities in India are well-known for their academic credentials. Mutual cooperation and exchange programs between these universities and Saudi universities can bring fruitful results.” He said Saudi universities were great places of learning with the most ultra-modern infrastructure, which could benefit Indian institutions.
Before the event, Sareshwala met with members of the Indian community, who urged him to help them establish an Indian Embassy School in Abha. He said that he would meet with officials to achieve this “primary need of Indians” in the city.
Abdullah Al-Melhi, dean of the languages and translation faculty at King Khalid University in Abha, who presided over the gathering, said teaching of English can be an area of cooperation between Indian and Saudi universities. He said that Indian teachers have made a significant contribution to his faculty at the university.
Fahad Al-Ahmari, dean of e-learning at King Khalid University, said in his speech that the world has been experiencing major technological developments on a daily basis. This was why there should be a greater focus on virtual/online education.
Mohsin Raza Khan, program director, said the meeting was held to seek further opportunities for joint agreements in education.
Anchoring the event, Mohammad Asif, program organizer, said: “Education exchange programs and cooperation between Indian and Saudi universities, especially in science, technology and medical fields can be beneficial for the universities of both nations.”
Javed Ahmed, program convener, extended the vote of thanks. Irshad Ahmed had earlier welcomed the guests and audience.
