Infection Control Consultant and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Baha University Mohammad Abdulrahman Halawani said the hospital environment represents the place most crowded with microbes and viruses. “Experts always recommend that people get out of hospitals quickly whenever possible if their treatment does not require them to remain hospitalized,” said the consultant.

He noted that the identification of infections in hospitals depends on various risk factors that might increase the vulnerability of patients to such infections. “The high rates of infections in hospitals are indicative of poor care and attention to the health and safety of patients,” he said.

Halawani said that the coronavirus is one of the viruses that have the ability to survive on different surfaces in hospitals, especially if these places are not cleaned and disinfected properly and frequently. “Cases of infections with coronavirus in hospitals are the result of gaps in basic prevention measures,” he said.

Referring to the most important health requirements, he said: “These involve disinfecting the multi-use devices, the strict epidemiological surveillance of bacterial farms, limiting the use of antibiotics in hospitals and the washing of hands before and after physical contact with patients or their surrounding environment.”
