RIYADH: Relatives of a Saudi detainee in the US have requested an urgent medical treatment for him. Khaled Al-Dossari, who is serving a life sentence in an Illinois jail, was found to be suffering from a critical condition by his doctor.

Al-Dossari is detained over criminal charges, including the attempted bombing of the home of former President George Bush. He’s also accused of bombing an amusement park and dams, as well as possession of weapons of mass destruction.

His family said that US authorities had put him in solitary confinement “which has seriously affected his health,” adding that it was the third time that Al-Dossari had been severely sick in prison. “He is also suffering physically and psychologically,” the family said.

According to sources, the medical report issued by his doctor said he needs immediate treatment.

The famliy added that Al-Dossari’s legal defense team will raise the issue before the US Federal Court why the prison administration failed to provide him the treatment.

“Medical treatment is necessary to restore him to good health so that he could regain strength and withstand the pressure of his imprisonment,” the family said, adding that the defense team will also provide legal advise to Al-Dossari.
