The father of Rama Abdullah Al-Muhaimeed, the young girl wrongly given chemotherapy treatment in May 2013, claims he was pressured by doctors into signing a consent form for her treatment.

Testifying in the court case that began in Buraidah on Wednesday, Al-Muhaimeed said he was not given enough time by the doctors to evaluate the treatment they recommended.

He described how five-year-old Rama was admitted to Prince Faisal bin Bandar Oncology Center and her subsequent treatment in the United States for 13 months. Al-Muhaimeed also spoke about the emotional trauma suffered by his daughter and the family over the past 17 months.

Four physicians and a laboratory specialist attended the session but did not testify. The court postponed the case to Nov. 2 so that the judges could get a detailed report on the matter.

Rama was given chemotherapy based on a verbal report from a specialist physician at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Buraidah. However, after receiving the formal report in writing, they discovered Rama only suffered from inflammation of her lymph nodes and not cancer. The management of the hospital told the family about the error.

Rama received support from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to undergo treatment at Mayo Clinic in the US.

Rama had begun recovering after a month of treatment at the clinic and was discharged, but due to severe inflammation in her trachea and high fever, she was transferred to a specialized hospital for children, where she underwent a series of operations.

She returned to Mayo Clinic to undergo several additional operations. She is expected to return to the US after one year for follow-up treatment.
