DAMMAM: The presence of two generations of a single family within a single institution is an indicator of its ability to provide the appropriate atmosphere as well as the stimulating work environment that attracts competent employees.

Half a century ago, Yusuf Yaqub Al-Saffar went from his hometown of Qatif to Dammam, the capital of the Eastern Province (EP), to work in the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). Fifty years later, his son works for the same company while his grandson also hopes to find employment in the company.

For 31 years, Al-Saffar worked in the electricity company as his son Mohammed went to school and graduated from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). Then, Mohammed joined the company and, for four years, worked next to his father.

Al-Saffar retired in 2001 after completing 35 years of work in the Saudi Electricity Company. Of the early days, he says: “Things were simple and the demand for electricity was not as high as it is today.”

Years passed quickly and the father found his son working next to him in the same plant as an employee in charge of one of the main departments in the company.

Mohammed Al-Saffar said that his presence next to his father was an indicator of their devotion to the company, which is today one of the biggest and ambitious projects in the Kingdom. It provides electricity to the homes and factories of millions of people in the eastern region.

Ziyad Al-Shiha, CEO of the Saudi Electricity Company, expressed satisfaction that the company is able to attract many generations to work, thanks to its ongoing progress and development.
