Filipinos in Al-Khafji near Kuwait recently registered as overseas voters so that they can participate in their country’s 2016 national elections.

A total of 114 were able to register during the Philippine mission’s Embassy on Wheels (EOW) program, which saw officials travel 1,400 km from the Saudi capital to reach the area.

Overseas absentee voting (OAV) registration started on May 6 last year.

These expatriate Filipinos will now be able to vote for the president, vice president, 12 members of the Senate and one party-list sectoral representative in the elections.

Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago urged Filipinos in the Kingdom to register.

“I invite more Filipinos to register as overseas voter and to exercise your right to suffrage during the elections in 2016. There are only about 10 months to go before the end of the registration period,” he said.

In Riyadh, Filipinos can register at the embassy lobby from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There would be more EOW programs to allow for registration over the coming months.
