Municipal authorities in Jeddah have filed a suit against a local company that was contracted to manage the new abattoir in Al-Khumra. The municipality has asked judicial authorities to confiscate the financial assets of the company until it pays SR1.9 million in outstanding fees to the mayoralty.

According to the municipality, a contract was signed with the company for an annual fee of SR1.4 million for a 15-year period. The mayoralty is requesting that the firm pay its outstanding rent owed for the period of 1429 to 1435, as well as up to SR95,900 in fines to compensate for the delay.

Despite some rogue companies delaying their payments, Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras said the municipality is satisfied with the 124 projects signed off last year, that amounted to nearly SR3.16 billion for the township. Among these contracts were plans to maintain roads, bridges, tunnels and lighting and paving streets.

According to Abu Ras, the projects have had an evident impact on Jeddah and have boosted the development of waterfront and parks, as well as main roads.
