The Qaderoon Business Disability Network has urged companies and the government to hire more people with disabilities.

Amr Khashoggi, head of the organization’s board of directors, said here recently that people with disabilities can contribute significantly to the economy but should be given the opportunity to do so.

Khashoggi was speaking at an event held by the organization to mark the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which is held every year on Dec. 3.

The event was hosted by the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) under the auspices of the Labor Ministry. More than 100 guests from various companies attended to raise awareness about the needs of people with disabilities.

Khashoggi said that companies must start working to change their work environments to accommodate people with disabilities, and should also provide more training opportunities for them.

During the event, the JCCI signed an agreement to join the network as an associate member.
