RIYADH: History was created at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) elections in terms of number of candidates in the fray, with as many as 59 contesting for membership, here on Friday.
A total of 10,414 voters participated in the elections to elect 12 businessmen, including six traders and six industrialists.
The polls were conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment (MCI) in cooperation with the RCCI at the at Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center..
Among the traders who were elected were Ajlan Al-Ajlan (910 votes), Abdullah Al-Fahd Al-Ajlan (728), Ali Saleh Al-Othaim (681), Ayed Al-Wabri (526), Saud Al-Miseri (396) and Nasser Abullah Al-Shethi (380 votes).
The elected industrialists are: Saad Mohammed Al-Ajlan (719 votes), Khalid Al-Jeraisy (664), Mohammed Fahd Al-Hamadi (92), Rakan Abdullah Abu Nayan (432), Ahmed Sulaiman Al-Rajhi (408) and Osman Abdulaziz Al-Zamil (395).
A total of five women candidates participated in the elections, but none of them won.
During an inspection tour on Wednesday, MCI Deputy Minister for Internal Trade Tariq A. Al-Naeem said the committee and the working teams supervising the elections carried out their work properly and professionally.
“This resulted from the continuous coordination and partnership between the Ministry of Commerce and Investment and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry,” he said.
Al-Naeem said the electronic link reduced reliance on paperwork and forms used previously, which made it possible to announce the results accurately and quickly, immediately after the voting was over.
“I spoke with some voters, and their opinions were excellent,” he said, adding that this election witnessed the largest number of candidates in the history of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the Kingdom.
The deputy minister pointed out that voting was carried out through the electronic link between the Chamber of Commerce data and the Commercial Registration data at the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, so that the voter brought identification to verify his identity.
