The Philippine Embassy has urged undocumented Filipino expatriates with children to take advantage of the second free DNA testing to be conducted soon by the Saudi Ministry of Interior.

“These parents should bear in mind that a positive result of the DNA testing is the only way that their children could be granted exit visas to leave for the Philippines,” Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago told Arab News on Friday.

“Parents are urged to report to the embassy or contact Yusoph Khalil.

“The DNA testing will be conducted in coordination with the Philippine Embassy. This is not a simple or normal procedure,” he said.

He added that this could be the last free DNA testing done by the Ministry of Interior. Later Filipinos might have to pay for it and it would be costly — over SR1,000.

The ambassador noted that there are 300 undocumented OFWs on the list but only 120 have shown up so far for the second free DNA tests. Earlier, the embassy issued a list containing 122 names.

Expressing doubts that the rest will show up, Ambassador Tago said: “During the correction period last year, there were 600 on the list but only 400 reported to the embassy and eventually left for the Philippines.”

“If they want to leave and go back to the Philippines with their children, they should take advantage of the second free DNA testing being coordinated with the embassy,” he said.

He added that the embassy has been informed that the Ministry of Interior will conduct the free DNA testing soon.
