A five-member gang has been arrested in Bahrah, near Jeddah, for allegedly stealing a number of cars, said Lt. Col. Aati Al-Qurashi, spokesman of police in the Makkah region.

“The gang including four Saudis and a non-Saudi Arab citizen ranging between 20 and 29 years of age took away the cars at gun point,” said the spokesman. He said security agents are still questioning the gang members in order to get more details about their crimes.

In a related development, the Makkah police arrested a Bangladeshi agent for allegedly giving bounced checks while signing contracts to rent hotels in Madinah for a whopping SR10.3 million.

“Hotel owners were surprised when the bank refused to pay for the checks because the man did not have enough money in his account,” an informed security source said.

Makkah police arrested the Bangladeshi after receiving information from the Khalediya police in Madinah. Hotel owners said the man was not responding to their calls when his checks bounced.

“Makkah police arrested him while he was going to sign a similar deal with hotel owners in Misfala in Makkah,” said sabq.org in a report on Sunday.

Police in Madinah have handed over the culprit to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution to take punitive action.
