Riyadh police have busted a Bangladeshi gang involved in robbery and looting, according to a police statement.

The statement said the gangsters, aged between 25 and 30, targeted their fellow countrymen working in Riyadh. The victims were kidnapped and robbed.

The Sulaimaniyah police station received a report from a Bangladeshi expatriate who claimed he was held by a group of expats, said the report. The man said he was taken to a rest house at Al-Sally district where he was held, beaten up and robbed of his money and mobile phone.

This was not an isolated incident, police sources said, since it came in the wake of another report received by the Khaleej police station from another victim of the same nationality. In his report, the man described a modus operandi of the criminals, which by now Riyadh police were familiar with. The man said he was forced by a group of expats into a car and later taken to an apartment where he remained a captive for three days. They robbed him of his cash and mobile phone, and then took off.

Police took the two cases seriously as they involved the same modus operandi. After thorough inquiries and an undercover investigation, authorities identified the gang and arrested all the six members. All of them confessed to the charges.
