Two Asian workers died in Dhahran on Monday morning following a suspicious gas leak.

Ziyad Al-Ruqaiti, spokesman for the Eastern Province police, said the police department received an emergency call from a citizen alerting it of the accident.

“I knocked at the door many times but there was no answer,” said the house owner. “So I called the police immediately,” he said.

Al-Ruqaiti said: “Civil Defense personnel helped open the door and found two bodies.” A preliminary investigation indicated the two died after inhaling poisonous gas inside the room.

He said: “Four full gallons of alcohol were found inside their room, which indicated that they were using their room for making alcohol. The gas may have been a result of the fermenting alcohol.”

The bodies were transferred to a local hospital for forensic examination. The investigation continues.
