The German Consulate in Jeddah celebrated the German Unity Day at the premises of the consular general’s residence on Wednesday.

Rolf Theodor Schuster, the consul general of the Federal Republic of Germany, welcomed guest of honor Attiyah Othman Al-Ghamdi, deputy chief of protocal at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Makkah branch), diplomats, dignitaries and nationals on the occasion.

Schuster said he would like to convey the German people’s best wishes to their Saudi counterparts on the occasion of German Unity Day. “The Saudi-German relationship is being strengthened with each passing year. Last year, the German consulate in Jeddah issued around 10,000 Schengen visas for Saudi citizens who traveled to Europe, with Germany as their main destination. Through issuing visas here in Jeddah we were able to improve the positive exchange between Germany and Saudi Arabia,” he said.

“I’m proud to witness an increasing number of bilateral networking events in Jeddah between Saudi businessmen and Germans,” said Schuster.






“I would also like to thank the outgoing Secretary General of the OIC and his staff, who enabled us to jointly organize the dialogue forum “bridging cultures” last November. We are looking forward to continue the excellent cooperation next year,” he said.

In 2013, for the first time, students in Jeddah were offered to sit for the examination of the official language certificate of Goethe Institute here, said the consul general.

“This was the result of the close cooperation of the German International School in Jeddah, Goethe Institute, the Cultural Manager of the Robert Bosch Foundation, and the German Consulate-General,” he added.

“We are looking forward to continue our work and offer full consular services to Saudi and German citizens after opening our new Consulate-General in the first half of next year,” he concluded.
