JEDDAH: A quarrel between two girls at the Al-Zahour Orphanage in Makkah took a violent turn recently, with one of them reportedly using a sharp instrument to attack the other and injuring her.

The attacker was sent to a correction center, while the injured girl was sent to a shelter after treatment at a hospital, along with two other girls, an online newspaper reported Sunday.

Informed sources were quoted by the newspaper as saying that the other two girls were “unfairly” detained in the shelter as they did not play any role in the incident.

Nida Lubna, director of Al Zahour Orphanage, told the newspaper she was on leave and that she did not have any details of the incident. Lubna aksed the newspaper to contact Hayat Shihab, supervisor of the orphanage. However, she also did not respond. Attempts to contact Hanim Yakindi, director of the Umm Al-Qura Association, also proved futile, the newspaper said.

A Ministry of Social Affairs official was quoted as saying that the ministry had received three complaints from the girls’ protection home and care center and Al-Zahour Orphanage in two weeks.
