Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mutlaq bin Mohammad, member of the Council of Senior Scholars and member of the Permanent Committee for Scientific Research and Iftaa, called on businessmen, companies, commercial establishments and individuals to direct part of their alms to charitable societies that specialize in providing health care for poor patients. He pointed out that a number of charitable societies such as Zamzam Charitable Society provides medications, and pays expenses of medical operations in addition to providing medical equipment to thousands of patients. He said giving alms to them is allowed in Shariah.

He said the needs of the poor are varied; they need food, clothing and accommodation, medical treatment, funds for marriage, education and vocational training. These can be paid for from the money allocated to alms.

He said medical treatment protects people from harm and some poor patients are in great need of treatment which they cannot afford. Alms are given to ease the burdens of the poor and easing their pain takes precedence.

He called on Zamzam for Voluntary Health Services in Makkah to open a special account to receive alms. This account should be supervised by a trusted committee that takes care of spending on the treatment of the poor who are included in their services.
