ABHA: Against all odds, three young Saudis in Asir region took initiative to establish a rest house and run a restaurant in Al-Souda Park with the aim to encourage youth to venture out instead of sitting idly in case of unemployment.
Refusing to remain inactive and idle, they took keen interest in the enterprise to counter perception that these types of jobs are not valuable.
Explaining his idea, Yahya Madawi, the supervisor of the rest house, said together with his siblings, he conducted a feasibility study of the project on a piece of land they owned in Souda Center near Al-Magdhi Dam last year for one month. The project, he said, achieved remarkable success to the extent they were chosen to join Janadriyah Festival last year and the Shopping Festival in Asir this year.
He added that they returned to work this year, saying that they cook food themselves and serve it to customers in luxury dining halls. He also noted that they have become skilled chefs and distinguished in their work.
Further, the three Saudis expressed their pride over hearing words of appreciation from customers, notably from some GCC tourists who were keen to contact and visit them on the back of the good reviews that they had heard about them with regards to quality services and commitment to public health standards, as well as selection of the highest quality meat and vegetables.
The youths said that they wanted to send a message to other youths that work is available and that it is not shameful to do any particular kind of work. They also want other youth to know that a strong will and determination are the keys to success.
It is to be recalled that Mohammed Al-Amrah, the director general of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) and secretary general of Tourist Development Council in Asir Region, visited the owners of the project. He expressed his support to them and described them as an honorable example for ambitious Saudi youths.
