DAMMAM: Five government and security agencies have stepped up their campaign to arrest the sellers and distributers of fireworks.

Ziad Al-Ruqaiti, spokesman of the Eastern Province police, said violators would be arrested and their goods confiscated. Operations are taking place with the security agencies, the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Civil Defense and mayoralty, he said.

The Civil Defense has warned that fireworks can cause serious injury including blindness and loss of limbs. In addition, they were a fire hazard, and produced with highly combustible, low quality materials.
