Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammad bin Nasser is closely monitoring the state of towns and villages that experienced light tremors in the eastern and central parts of the province on Sunday, sources said.

The governor also allayed the fears of citizens and expatriates residing in the area, electronic newspaper sabq.org said, quoting a governorate official.

Ali Zaala, Jazan governorate spokesman, said the prince acquired detailed information about the tremors, which measured 3.7 on the Richter scale.

The governor ordered officials to ensure the safety of residents and take precautionary measures for properties, besides continuously keeping in contact with the National Center for Earthquakes and Volcanoes for updates on possible seismic activities.

He also instructed officials to raise awareness among the masses on precautionary measures that can be taken at home, he said.
