JEDDAH: The Martyrs Fund has announced that it disburses 75 percent of its annual revenues to helping the needy families of martyrs, the wounded, prisoners of war and missing persons.

Approximately 25 percent of the revenues is allocated for further investments to fuel the development of the fund’s capabilities.

The fund has defined the word “martyr” as a person, military or civilian, who died as a result of a war, engaged with an enemy of the Kingdom, or during military training and exercises, during maintaining order and security, and while rescuing lives or properties of citizens during firefighting.

The system includes military students who are tasked with such missions, as well as every public military or civilian employee who dies as a result of terrorist attack or who was otherwise targeted in an attack to inflict harm and damage on the Kingdom.

Prisoners of war are defined by the fund as military personnel who are arrested by force as a result of a war with an enemy, or during military exercises to maintain security and order.

Wounded or injured soldiers or civilians, according to the system, are persons with approximately 70 percent disability as a result of war with an enemy or during military exercises, the maintenance of security and order, or in the course of rescuing lives or property in cases of detention.

The fund’s board of trustees is chaired by the interior minister and comprises the minister of Islamic affairs, minister of finance and minister of social affairs.
