The Eastern Province Mayoralty has kicked off a campaign to remove unsightly graffiti from the walls of public facilities in the region, including Marjan Island in Dammam.

Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Sufaian, media spokesman of the mayoralty, said the mayor of the Eastern Province, Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Jubair, would lead the initiative. The campaign would include the chairman of the Annual Charity Run Committee, Abdulaziz Al-Turki, committee members, mayoral deputies, the head of the Dammam municipality, and people with special needs, he said.

Al-Sufaian said the campaign aims to raise awareness about the need to respect public facilities. The participants would replace some of the graffiti and writing with “attractive paintings.”

He said the cost of cleaning up these facilities could be spent on developing more parks and recreational areas for citizens.

The mayoralty has recently covered many walls of toilets at the waterfronts in Dammam and Alkhobar with colorful paintings, he said.
