The Ministry of Education has formed a committee to address the growing number of assaults committed by students on teachers, according to sources.

The committee is set to draft an awareness program highlighting the importance and value of the teaching body.

The move comes in the wake of an increasing number of incidents in which teachers have fallen victim to violence perpetrated by students.

The committee will be granted authority to correct and modify the behavior of students in both the medium and secondary levels and put in place punishments and procedures against aggressors. Security forces will also be called upon to deal with assaulters, sources said.

The Ministry of Education has directed school departments to launch awareness programs for students on the rights of teachers and foster sound student behavior toward their mentors.

Students will also be warned about the punishment and retributions they will face if they transgress authority figures.

The ministry expressed its regret toward the assault incident against a teacher in Wadi Al-Dawaser, stressing that it stands against any act of violence.

In a statement announced in the aftermath of the incident, the ministry asserted that the case would be pursued in courts.

Meanwhile, the ministry directed school principals to establish a database recording behavioral violations committed by students. Violations and behavioral problems displayed by certain students are to be dealt with in confidentiality among a school committee with the aim of reforming student conduct.

The ministry has also emphasized that school administrations must apply strict codes and rules of behavior and attendance for students in the medium and secondary levels of school.
