RIYADH: Social media can negatively affect the morals and ethics of individuals if they are exposed to incorrect news or fake accounts spreading lies and scandals, which are not permissible in Islam, a family expert has said.

“Families should ensure that children get authentic information and factually correct news so as to minimize rumors and unethical behavior in the community,” said Meysara Taher.

He was addressing a workshop organized by Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Center for Science and Technology in Alkhobar on protecting intellectual security.

A stable family is the one that tackles problems through dialogue, spreads understanding and encourages cooperation and achievement between its members, said Taher.

Referring to family violence, he said there are many forms of violence, including verbal and physical, which can be avoided by encouraging dialogue and listening.”

Meanwhile, a survey showed that 32 percent of the Kingdom’s students feel like leaving their parents.

The survey, carried out by an assessment authority of general education on nearly 100,000 students Kingdom-wide, also showed that the students have a feeling that their parents have no time to sit with them.
