The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) recently arrested a foreign woman for allegedly practicing black magic and sorcery, local media reported.

The Haia had received information that an African woman in Riyadh had claimed she was a fortune teller, and had used shells to convince people she could remove black magic, and help couples love each other.

The Haia confiscated shells, herbs and cash money, according to the report.

An African man was arrested in Jeddah for allegedly engaging in magic acts. Books, papers containing talismans, a magic guide, and incorrect verses of the Holy Qur’an were uncovered during the raid on his house, the report said.

The Haia has dealt with 51 cases of black magic and sorcery since the beginning of the year.

The Haia is currently considering 656 cases. It has also deactivated 2,786 black magic acts, the report said.
