RIYADH: Saudis and expatriates have been shocked by the act of two Saudi twins who tried to kill their parents and a number of other family members during the holy month of Ramadan.
On Friday, Khalid and Saleh, residents of Al-Hamra District in Riyadh (East), rocked Saudi society when they killed their 67-year-old mother, and also made a failed attempt to kill their father, Ibrahim Bin Ali El-Arini, 73, using sharp knives. Meanwhile, their brother Suleiman, 22, managed to survive but remains at the ICU in a critical condition.
Their mother was stabbed to death with a machete and knife, while Suleiman was stabbed multiple times.
“It is really a horrible crime which was committed by two members of the family killing their elderly parents after suhor,” said a translator, who wished to remain anonymous.
Describing it as a terrorist act, he said that it raises grave concerns since “our children stay at home and spend most of their time on the Internet communicating with eachother on social media. However, nobody knows what they are up to.”
The Imam of Othman Mosque in the district said that the boys were not seen in the mosque that day. “I am the imam of their mosque, and you can imagine that they did not join the prayer with us, even though their father was the first to enter the mosque. Their mother attended Tarawih prayers too,” he said.
According to the police report, the twin began to drag their mother to the store room at dawn on Friday and started stabbing her several times, causing her to succumb to her injuries.
They then went after their father and their brother, separately, stabbing them several times. They fled from the house by seizing a vehicle belonging to an expat.
However, security forces captured the twins in the Dalam Al-Kharj, south of Riyadh, according to Major General Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman for the Interior Ministry.
According to the eye-witness account of a resident, Ali Al-Aqeel, the twins never used to socialize with anyone, not even with the children of the neighborhood or their classmates. They had never been seen even in the mosque or with the children of the neighborhood.
The Ministry of interior said in a statement that it has been proven that the two boys had been brain-washed by Takfeeri ideology.
