A hospital duty manager in Jazan was beaten up by the family members of a patient due to an erroneous death report, a local daily reported.

Earlier, a nurse from the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Jazan general hospital contacted the duty manager informing him that a patient (named Mohamed Hussein Qahtani) had died and asked him to call the deceased’s father to inform him of his death.

When members of the family arrived at the ICU, they discovered that the dead man with the name of Ali Ahmed Al-Bar was not their son. An altercation with the duty manager turned into a physical attack on him by the family. Police subsequently registered a case of assault.

In his defense, the father told local media that he and his family members rushed to the hospital on hearing about their son’s death at 5 a.m. but upon their arrival at the hospital, they found him in good health. At 6 a.m. they went down to see the manager who took responsibility for informing them about the death based on a report from the nurse at the ICU.
