JEDDAH: The general directorate of health affairs in Riyadh has promised to make public the facts surrounding an assault by a cleaner on a disabled person in Al-Naqaha Hospital.

Saleh Al-Asmari, the person who was attacked, said he was hospitalized after suffering partial paralysis as a result of a traffic accident four years ago. He has been confined to a wheelchair since then and he said the hospital services were very poor.

“The nursing staff has given up all tasks entrusted to it and now we are being taken care of by the cleaners,” he said. He said the attack happened before the Eid Al-Adha holidays. “The cleaner was helping me clean myself, a nursing task that he often did. That time, he did not clean me properly and our verbal exchanges ended with him attacking me.”

Al-Asmari filed a complaint with the department of patient affairs, and he also communicated with the hospital administration but with no results so far.
