DAMMAM: The King Fahd University Hospital (KFUH) is planning legal action against a citizen who posted a video clip on social media of a drowning victim, alleging negligence by the hospital.

“The Civil Defense department first tried to revive the child who drowned in Alkhobar, but were unsuccessful. Subsequently, the boy was taken to a private clinic, where he died,” local media reported quoting an official of the hospital.

“The child was brought dead to the King Fahd hospital by his family. They wanted to keep his body in the morgue, but had not obtained a warrant from the police. Hence, the hospital refused to keep the body in the morgue,” Dr. Muhiy Al-Wahass, the medical director of the hospital, said.

According to Al-Wahass, the incident was filmed by the citizen on his mobile phone and published in an electronic magazine and on social media while accusing the hospital of refusing to treat the boy. “This is absolutely false and malicious.”

He said the hospital administration will sue the citizen as well others for defaming the hospital and violating the privacy of the patient.

Al-Wahass said the entire incident was filmed on the security cameras of the hospital and have been documented in the file of the deceased child.

“The hospital administration clarifies that no emergency case had been turned away,” he added.
