ALKHOBAR: A massive sandstorm that swept through the Eastern Province on Tuesday night blew down some of the umbrellas at the King Fahd Causeway, but no casualties were reported.
The King Fahd Causeway Authority said they had sent teams to the area and was now working on getting the structures fixed.
Meanwhile, Saleh bin Ali Al-Solouk, director general of the region’s health department, said all hospitals have been placed on alert to deal with people experiencing respiratory problems.
Asaad Saud, spokesman for the department, said all 24-hour hospitals are ready to provide treatment for those affected by the sandstorm. He urged the public to stay indoors. If they do have to go out they should wear protective masks, he said.
The local traffic department has intensified patrols to clear up areas where there is congestion.
