QASSIM: A specialized medical team at Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Hospital in Qassim was able to remove a rare and massive brain tumor from a patient in her 60s suffering paralysis to the right side of her body, total loss of smell and continuous headache.

The procedure involved a careful microscopic surgery, which lasted for eight continuous hours.

The patient had been referred to the hospital and after being subjected to a number of accurate diagnostic tests, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the existence of the massive tumor in the brain. The tumor is very rare and known as an “olfactory groove meningioma.”

The patient was prepared immediately for surgery where the team used the surgical Pentero microscope which enabled them to determine the location of the tumor accurately and then remove it.

The surgical team also used ultrasonic aspirator technology, which enabled analyzing the tissues of the brain with utmost accuracy.

The team was very keen and careful for the safety of the patient by using such medical tools and technologies to define the exact place of the tumor and remove it without affecting the surrounding areas of the brain.

The size of the removed tumor was 5cm x 3.5cm x 4cm. The patient was under close monitoring and follow-up in the intensive care

unit at the hospital until her health conditions were described as stable and recovered.
