The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) said that it has detected a shortage in the number of beds in the Al-Amal Complex for Mental Health.

The refusal of some families to come forward and take their family members who have recovered has led to an increasing crisis in the complex due to the overcrowding of the hospital with patients who remain there despite the end of their treatment, a local publication reported.

The NSHR has moved to address a number of issues at Al-Amal Complex for Mental Health and seeks to convince the families of patients of the importance of taking their children and family members out of the hospital so that other patients can benefit from the badly needed beds and medical services.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission for the Protection of Integrity issued a statement last year emphasizing that Al-Amal Complex for Mental Health does not perform its task as it should.

A reliable source familiar with the society said that the centre suffers from a severe shortage in the number of beds, and now also lacks many medical services, such as particular drugs, as well as places in the small area allocated for rehabilitation activities, compared to the number of patients and beneficiaries who require assistance.

“The society addressed the Ministry of Health and the general supervisor in the complex to amend the negative issues that the body observed,” said the source.
