The Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank said Friday that it is the only organization authorized by the Saudi government to issue and market coupons for sacrificial animals (adahi) during Haj.

IDB, which supervises the Kingdom’s adahi program, markets five types of coupons for pilgrims to sacrifice animals.

The green coupon is for pilgrims who perform Haj through “Tamattu” and “Qiran” methods, the bank said.

Tamattu means performing Umrah first before entering into the state of ihram for Haj while Qiran means entering into the state of ihram for Haj and Umrah simultaneously.

The second type (red in color) is for fidya or compensation. The third type of coupon, which is yellow, is for sadaqa or charity. The fourth (brown) is for sacrifice and the fifth (blue) coupon is for agents of pilgrims.

The bank said it has already supplied adequate numbers of coupons among the four authorized distributors: Saudi Post, Al-Rajhi Bank, Al-Amoudi Exchange and Haji & Mutamir Gift Association.

IDB President Ahmed Mohammed Ali urged all pilgrims to make use of the adahi program, which is aimed at helping the faithful perform their sacrifices in an orderly and hygienic manner in order to prevent environmental pollution at the holy sites. This year, IDB has fixed the price of a single sacrificial sheep at SR490 ($131 or 99 euros).
