Indian International School-Jeddah (IISJ) students won the first Sir Syed memorial inter-school speech contest.
The event, held at the IISJ Boys Scetion, was organized by Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Committee in Jeddah.
Farzan Ahmed Rizvi, president of the AMU alumni committee, highlighted the contributions of Sir Syed, and emphasized the importance of public speaking and leadership skills for all but specially younger generation.
The competition was divided in four groups, Grade 9 to Grade 12. Eight teams, totaling 26 students, participated in the contest. The teams were IISJ Boys, IISJ Girls, Al-Falah International DPS School, Al-Wurood School, Al-Noor School, Al-Ahdab School, Duhat-ul-Uloom School and AMU alumni team.
Iman Aqeel Khan (AMU alumni team), Mohammed Ajder (Al-Wurood School), Usaid Saud (IISJ Boys), Heba Refat (AMU alumni team) were the winners in Grade 9-Grade 12 individual competitions.
Rizin Ahmed (IISJ-Boys), Owaise Ali Khan (Al-Noor), Karan Dilsher (Al-Wurood) and Sayeda Tahera (IISJ-Girls) secured second positions in the Grade 9-Grade 12 individual competitions.
Affan Mohammed (Al-Wurood ), R. Saravanan (IISJ-Boys), Aleefah Ahmed (IISJ-Girls), Areeb Ahmed Kashif (IISJ-Boys) were placed third in the Grade 9-Grade 12 individual competition respectively.
Aqeel Jamil, secretary of AMU alumni committee, said that the contest was a tribute to the founder of Aligarh Muslim University, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. The event’s aim was to familiarize and inspire young students about the life of the great educationist and reformer Sir Syed.
The topic of the contest was “Sir Syed’s Life and Achievements.”
Presentations were informative and provided an insight into the multifaceted personality of Sir Syed. Many aspects of his life and contributions were highlighted. The audience applauded and encouraged the participants for their efforts.
The program was attended by Mohammed Raghib Qureshi, head of chancery at the Jeddah Indian Consulate, Dr. Irshad Ahmed, consul (PI & C), Syed Masood Ahmed, principal, IISJ; Dr. Najeeb Qais, vice principal, IISJ-Boys; Farah, vice principal, IISJ-Girls, Haque, Noufel, Rita Sharma, Tajuddin and AMU alumni committee members, parents and students.
Qureshi appreciated the efforts of the children and the organizing committee.
Prizes, plaques and certificates were presented by Qureshi, Ahmed and AMU alumni committee members Imtiaz Ahmed, Nooruddin Khan, Mansoor Jafri, Aziz ur Rab, Mohammed Mumshaduddin and Athar Rasool.
Toastmasters Jameel Sayeed, Riyaz Sarang, Khalil Ahmed, Arshad Saeed and Siraj Siddiqui were part of judges panel. Ather Rasool, Omer, Rahil and Nabeel were the role-players.
