DAMMAM: As Eid Al-Fitr is approaching and Ramadan is ending, everyone is preparing for the holiday season with their friends and family, while some might be forced to travel long distances within the Kingdom to greet relatives. Public figures and government authorities are warning drivers to follow the road signs and drive safely to ensure their security and health.
In this vein, the imams of several mosques in the Kingdom have issued a number of tips for drivers to use in the remaining days of Ramadan as well as during Eid Al-Fitr.
Sheikh Thamer Al-Buqami, the imam of Al Danah Mosque, said: “Drivers must remain calm and patient when driving in the remaining days of the holy month and in Eid Al-Fitr, as family visits and various events increase. With traffic congestion and the drivers’ desire to reach home before iftar, the number of accidents increases, resulting in large losses and possibly injuries or even deaths. Drivers in these moments should be patient, as the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said.
Sheikh Al-Buqami focused on several tips for drivers in these times: “We must moderate our speed and drive wisely, and must be aware of other cars while maintaining a healthy space between cars. We also must help other cars pass by with ease in order to avoid accidents, in addition to wearing seat belts, focusing on driving and being aware of distractions such as using a mobile phone.”
Sheikh Khamis Al-Zahrani, imam of Al-Jamaan Mosque, agreed, and added that driving wisely in the final days of Ramadan and during Eid Al-Fitr is very important so as not to spoil the sense of happiness in Eid Al-Fitr.
Sheikh Al-Zahrani said that the most beautiful thing during Ramadan is self-control: “This is the most beautiful thing to take with us from Ramadan. We must carry the meanings and morals of Ramadan into our daily lives at all times of the year, and among all walks of life.”
