The Indian Embassy on Saturday launched a special registration drive through Thursday to assist its nationals in legalizing their status.

The drive is in response to the large number of Indian expats who turned up to correct their status or obtain final exits before the Nov. 3 deadline marking the end of the amnesty.

“The Indian Embassy has decided to extend by two more days a special registration drive for Indians who have not corrected their status or are having difficulty with obtaining final exits. Nationals now have two more days, Oct. 16 and 17 to process their papers,” said Surinder Bhagat, embassy spokesperson, adding that around 500 nationals had registered with the embassy during the special drive.

Spelling out the procedure during the special drive, Bhagat said that Indian nationals can also register with the volunteers assigned by the embassy.

“The embassy urges overstaying nationals to correct their legal status and approach the embassy immediately,” he said.

He added that the embassy is committed to the legalization process and that the purpose of the drive is to have a database of nationals with specific problems in order to explore possible solutions within Saudi regulations.

“The Indian mission is firm in its resolve to have its nationals acquire legal status before the expiry of the grace period on Nov. 3,” he said.
