An Indian expat who died in a gas explosion at his place of work was buried in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The body of Mohammed Abdul Qamar, 23, had been kept at the Riyadh National Hospital mortuary for six weeks while social workers finalized burial formalities in accordance with a request by the family back home.

Jaleel Mattool of the Jamia Markaz Alumni and the Islamic Cultural Foundation of India (ICF) initiated formalities after receiving the request from a social worker from Jubail, while a member of the Bihar Association also facilitated the processing of Qamar’s paperwork.

Other social workers have contacted the company in which Qamar worked to retreive his salary and end-of-service benefits, which will be covered by the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).

Qamar was the sole breadwinner for his family, which includes seven sisters and two brothers.

The Kerala-based Jamia Markaz has pledged financial sponsorship of his younger siblings’ education.
