For the girls of International Indian School, Jeddah (IISJ), the fifth annual conference of Dar Al-Hekma Model United Nations was “an enriching” experience.

The theme of the conference this year was to explore the aggregate effect of world events as the world is so inter-connected that the most trivial incident in a remote corner reverberates far and wide.

“The conference was a microcosm of the UN Parliament, where each participant represented the country assigned to her,” said Sumaiya Fatima, an IISJ student who won the certificate of honorable mention during the event.

Fatima said the preparation, participation, interaction, and exposure to cultural diversity at the event was a greatly enjoyable and enriching experience.

The process of participation involves an in-depth analysis of political history, socio-economic developments and long-term issues pertaining to a nation, said Umme Kulsum who was honored for her outstanding performance.

“The forum helps participants to show their critical analysis and language skills,” said Anam Bayazid, who also won a certificate of merit.

The IISJ had sent its girls to the conference who made the school proud with their impressive performance, said Ashrafunnisa, head of the Sociology Department, who accompanied the IISJ delegation.

“IISJ shared the honor of best delegation with Dar Al-Hekma,” she pointed out. “Events like this not only promote the acquisition of knowledge but also enhance the development of the personality and skills of participants,” she said.
