With less than 30 days to go before the end of the amnesty deadline on Nov. 3, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are urging its nationals to speed up the process of legalizing their residency status.

Offices will remain closed for one week during the Eid Al-Adha holidays. The Indian Embassy has decided to launch a special registration drive to help Indians with the correction of their status.

“The objective of this drive is to create a database of those who are having trouble correcting their status and to find solutions within Saudi regulations,” said Surinder Bhagat, spokesperson for the Indian Embassy.

“The embassy will open a special registration counter on Oct. 12 to 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nationals living outside Riyadh can forward their details to [email protected],” he said.

“Nationals without documents should register with the embassy. However, only the Saudi authorities will take the final decisions.”

Many Indians have already availed of the extended grace period ending on Nov. 3 and corrected their status or obtained final exits without incurring fines.

The embassy officials deployed at the deportation center have been helping Indian workers legalize their status or in obtaining final exits from the beginning of the grace period.

“The embassy understands that there are Indian nationals who do not have an original copy of their passports or residency permits.”

There are also some without fingerprinting records. Undocumented or illegal Indian nationals who have not legalized their status or obtained a final exit at the deportation center (Tarheel) are urged to register with the Indian Embassy,” said Bhagat.
