Indonesian expatriates in Jeddah donated blood on Thursday ahead of their country’s 69th independence day, which falls on Sunday.

“Rendering a humanitarian service is a meaningful way of celebrating the country’s independence day,” said Sunarko, deputy consul-general of Indonesia, while inaugurating the blood donation camp at the Indonesian Consulate on Thursday, according to a consulate official.

“Blood donation drives should continue every year in a bid to save lives through a noble cause. Every drop of blood can make a difference at emergency wards.”

Lies Dharmakirty, the wife of the consul-general, was the first to donate the blood, followed by others, mainly women.

Nada bin Zagr of the Saudi Red Crescent Society and officials from King Abdulaziz Hospital attended the event, according to the statement.
