The entire staff at the Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah is working around the clock to help the nearly 88,027 illegal Indonesians who have overstayed their visas.

Consul Ahmad Sayfuddin told Arab News Saturday that the number includes those who have received a temporary document in lieu of their passports. Around 11,347 have obtained a change of sponsor with a work permit and have been issued a new passport number while 4,930 are in the process of acquiring a final exit.

With just eight days to go before the Nov. 3 deadline, Sayfuddin said 16,277 nationals had been “cleared” from a total of 71,750.

“There are about 200 applications daily for a temporary passport to rectify the status,” he said, adding that a team of 30 led by Tatang Abdul Razak, director of protection of Indonesian nationals abroad, has arrived from Jakarta to assist with the overload of applications.

He also said that a temporary office with a staff of 20 has been set up at Tarheel (deportation center) to assist Indonesians in fingerprinting and other exit procedures.
