RIYADH: A man who was arrested for shooting a staff doctor at King Fahd Medical Center (KFMC) is currently in custody, and the case is being investigated by the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution in Riyadh, the Riyadh police said.
The man was apparently upset that a male doctor had delivered his wife’s child and hence he shot the Jordanian doctor, on Wednesday evening,
Police media spokesman Col. Fawaz bin Jameel Al-Maiman said here on Monday that after shooting the doctor, the man, in his thirties, had fled the scene in his car.
During the chase, the Saudi abandoned the car and fled on foot. Subsequently, the police arrested him.
The gunman was angry because a male doctor, instead of a female one, had helped birth the baby. The man took the gynacologist out of his clinic under the pretext of thanking him and then shot him in the shoulder.
The wounded doctor was pronounced out of danger and is in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the KFMC although the bullet pierced his lungs.
In a statement, the KFMC said the delivery of the baby took place in April without any problems and subsequently, both mother and baby were in good health and so were discharged from the hospital.
Deputy Health Minister Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Duweila, visited the patient on Thursday and advised the authorities to prevent such incidents by exercising maximum security measures.
