RIYADH: The Riyadh chapter of Jamia Millia Islamia Alumni Association (JMIAA) recreated a campus-like milieu at its annual meet “Jamia campus across the sea,” which was organized to create special bonding among JMI alumni working here.

With this motto, Jamia alumni and their family members recently congregated here recreating the spirit of the Jamia campus.

The event held on the weekend aimed to increase interaction and camaraderie between alumni across different batches of graduates. About 400 attendees participated in the event.

Besides the special bonding, another mainstay of the program was the discussion of the minority character of Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University.

The JMIAA expressed deep concern over the steps being taken by the government to undermine the minority character of Muslim-run and managed educational institutions in India.

Notably, this was the first major event organized by the newly elected JMIAA cabinet that includes Aneesur Rahman (president), Laeeque Azmi (vice president), Zaki Haidar (general secretary), Shah Rahbar (joint secretary) and Neemu Khan (treasurer).

They said the approach by the government will have a huge negative impact on the educational prospects of Indian Muslims.

They stand with the fight for justice to protect the minority character of Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and other minority institutions in India.

The event was also marked with extracurricular activities for students and about 100 children of different age groups displayed their painting and drawing skills and participated in the drawing and painting competition with enthusiasm. Deserving children were awarded prizes and certificates.

Sports activities including football and volleyball were also organized for seniors with the winning team receiving medals and cups in this fun-filled event, which also organized activities for the ladies.
