Jazan residents are worried about the safety of the Beesh dam after they experienced 10 tremors of 3.77 degrees magnitude on the Richter scale on Sunday, followed by nine lesser tremors ranging between 2.4 degree and 1.07 degree on the Richter scale at a location close to the dam.

Their concern is further deepened as these tremors followed a series of 52 tremors recorded in the same area about six months ago in January. It was also reported that a number of rocks also rolled down from the nearby Maghes mountain, Sabq online daily reported on Tuesday.

However, spokesman of the Civil Defense in the province Maj. Yahya Al-Qahtani assured the people that no injuries to people or damages to properties were reported in the aftermath of the tremors.

“Tremors on Sunday were registered at the same location where 52 tremors during a 12-day spell, including a tremor of 5.2 degree on Richter scale on Jan. 23, occurred, ” warned Hani Zahran, a local official.
